Our first hunt.  We had little equipment, a few low-resolution video cameras, and an ancient surveillance system that I bought used.  I think we had two or three cell sensor EMF detectors.  We were true skeptics and just took a shot in the dark at the possibility of a bit of entertainment.  Jan and I had not been married but about three months.   We sat in the room for most likely several hours while I read, and Jan played on a laptop computer she had brought.  Nothing happened until I leaned over and kissed her.  The Cell Sensor beeped once, the first time we had heard it go off outside of testing the unit.  I said, "Hey, if you are there and can see us and are willing to communicate, then make that sensor go off again.  Within a few seconds, the Cell Sensor started a not-so-normal beeping rhythm; the rest is history, at least for us.  Jan became so frightened that we had to leave the room in Virginia city and book a room in Carson City to sleep in, returning the following day.  All in all, we not only changed our lives but instead of photographing an apparition, we got surveillance pics of an armed robber being pursued by Storey County deputy sheriffs.

The same video as above produced in very low 240px resolution for downloading by cell phones of the period when carriers charged by data usage.

The Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah is the cornerstone of this old city. Our first investigation of this structure was so quaint that the air conditioning consisted of a 2" X 4" board cut to the length and inserted in a room window to hold it up. The "haunted" room is room 502, supposedly haunted by a "lady in red."  We found hoards of people hanging around in the hallway outside our room, hoping to get a peek at the ghost. Upon questioning, it turned out that almost all of them were not even hotel guests.

We captured on surveillance a red anomaly that we could not explain and could have been an attempt at materialization.

Built in 1859 the Mackay Mansion is one of the icons of Virginia City History.  Long reported to be haunted, I took a crack at trying to capture something on video when I found myself stopping over in Virginia City on my way back from Reno to deliver an automobile to my wife.  The old lady Docent who guided me around was the high point of the tour.  No ghosts in this video, just a couple of stories.

May 20, 2013

Now, this is an exciting tour.  The Belmont Courthouse was built in 1876 (the year General Custer met his fate at the Little Big Horn) and was the seat of Nye County, Nevada, until 1905. In 1974 it was passed to the Nevada Park System.  This building has no electricity, therefore, tours are by appointment only.  You need to consult the park service website to make a reservation.  There is lots of interesting graffiti on the walls dating way back, including one from Charles Manson, who camped near before his killing spree in L.A.  It was pretty hard to try to whip out any detecting equipment so let's say that it "may" have some activity from the history relayed about it.

The Boulder Dam Hotel in Boulder City, Nevada, is one hotel that does not permit paranormal investigations on the property. Workers have long reported activity on the premises, but you must hide your equipment during check-in, or they will not rent to you. Once you are in the room, you can do as you please. Sadly, we caught no activity on surveillance or anything  else. However, the workers in the restaurant did tell us some personal stories of witnessing paranormal activity in the basement area below the restaurant.

Railroad Pass Casino has the oldest continuous gaming license (license #4) in the state of Nevada.  There are claims of a lady in white apparition walking the hallways of the hotel and that Rm 522 has some activity, which we put to the test.  Further claims are that another female ghost frequents the steak house and has been seen walking through the walls.  She is believed to be the apparition of a school teacher as the historical belief is held that one of the original schoolhouses of Boulder City lay where the steak house now stands.

We proved through documentation that the schoolhouse claim is inaccurate and that it actually lay further up the road.  Unfortunately, we captured no activity in Rm 522 during our stay.

Our second hunt at the Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah.  Curiously, the supposedly haunted room of the Lady in Red, room 502, has now been moved to room 512, a suite down the hall that commands more money to rent.  We have found this occurring on more than one property where the active rooms get moved around once the owners realize they can produce a higher rental.  This video details the violent history of the hotel through available records.  Unfortunately, we only got a few hits on the REM pod while occupying this room.

June 1, 2017

Claimed by the owners not to currently have or ever had any paranormal activity the Tonopah Station Casino / Hotel looked too good to pass up for the challenge.  Not only that, but the rooms are cheap and easy to get as myself and a friend passed through Tonopah while looking over some old mining claim properties.  I set up some equipment in the room and low and behold we did capture some activity.  Shows even sometimes the owners don't know what happens on their own properties.

The Tonopah and Goldfield Cemeteries.  The old Miner's cemetery sits next to the Clown Motel, which we stayed in while we were here.  We didn't look for activity in the hotel but reserved our hunt time for the cemetery.  It was dark, somewhat dangerous, and all that makes it "fun."  The next day we drove down to Goldfield and did a daytime walk of the cemetery there.  That one is a very, very large cemetery, and it is interesting to read the epitaphs on the tombstones and how all these early-day settlers gave up the ghost (so to speak).

Northern Nevada RR; Ely; Nevada; alledged haunted

2014

Archived footage of the Northern Nevada RR in Ely, Nevada.  The train ride up to the Ruth mine is entertaining and cheap for the kids.  Following the video, Executive Director Mark Bassett talks about the paranormal sightings on the railroad property.

There was a ghost hunt that the property permitted on the yard areas before Covid-19.  I advise contacting the railroad to inquire as to whether that hunt is still being given.

Great Basin National Park; Lehman Caves

April 26, 2014

Video of the Lehman Caves tour in Great Basin National Park, Nevada.  This cave has an area where it took folks back in the 1800s four hours to crawl on their hands and knees to get to a room where they left graffiti on the walls and ceiling by the flames of their lanterns.  The underground grafitti is really a must-see.  If ever in the Ely area be sure to take a detour and tour this National Park.

SILVER QUEEN HOTEL, VIRGINIA CITY 2020

 NOVEMBER 10-11, 2020

This is the first time I have been back to the Silver Queen in Virginia City since Jan, and I did our first surveillance ghost hunt here in 2011.  At that time, we stayed in room 13.  On this hunt, I was next door to it in room 12.  I was alone on business except for a second investigator who stayed in his room down the hall from me.  I picked up lots of metered activity in the room day and night by cell sensor units and REM pods.  There was no viable reason why the EMF activity was almost continuous.  Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the downstairs bar was closed the entire time I was in the hotel, only opening for a few hours a day while I was away on my business.  My wife and I had also encountered these limited hours during our first hunt in 2011, so perhaps it wasn't Covid-related as they claim it to be.

The evidence collected here pointed me more and more toward supporting the theory that paranormal activity is being broadcast out of the microwave sector of the broad spectrum.  Back at home, I bought and modified a microwave oven to test this theory and demonstrated that it was a possible cause of the activity.  This video goes into an in-depth look at the hotel's previous owners and their deaths.

The Belvada  Hotel sits directly across the street from the Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah, Nevada.  It had stood deteriorating and in poor condition for many years until purchased by the Cline family.  The town of Tonopah sold the building to the Clines for one dollar under the stipulation that they rebuild it for occupancy.  Rumored to have cost over a million dollars, the rebuilding lasted three years and was completed in 2020.   The money was well spent.  The Belvada is beautiful inside and was open during our stay except for the dining area.  The rooms are more upscale than the Mizpah, also owned by the Klines.  I believe that we are the first investigators to conduct a paranormal surveillance investigation on the property, and we did capture some results.

This video includes the history of the Belvada from its inception to the prohibition period.

The Eldorado Mine was originally the Techaticup mine and lay in the current town of Nelson, Nevada.  This little touristy ghost town is fun to spend a few hours visiting as the owners have the townsite littered with old cars and mining implements.  A tour of the remnants of the gold mine is offered for a small fee.  The tour itself goes inside the mine for just a couple of hundred yards and is on level ground, although side tunnels going way up and down are now barricaded and can be observed safely.  The owners are vocal in stating that pictures and video photography are permitted and expected inside the mine.  The tour starts in the mine office/gift shop now, and a well-given speech on the tools and mining techniques will delight even the youngsters on tour.   I did not try to photograph or take video inside the mine office area as this is how the guides make their income, and I think it would cheap shot them.  I did photograph in the mine, but a few warnings go along with that part of the tour.  First, this is rattlesnake country, and if you doubt it, the owners have a freezer of frozen ones for you to observe, so watch your kids and yourself.  Secondly, if you plan on filming in the mine, you will need flash or infrared to capture anything.  Lastly, the owners make it clear that ghost hunting is not permitted on their property.

We did not intend to capture anything paranormal on tour, but my infrared camcorder did so inside the mine, and it is one of the best EVPs we have ever gleaned.  It was a good hunt for us.

Chris Jones Apparition

Unknown apparition-type capture strolling down the street in front of the home of the Nevada State M.U.F.O.N. director in 2022. The membership had conflicting theories as to whether it was an apparition capture, a capture of alien technology, or a human subject wearing some kind of light-deflecting ghillie suit.

Apache Hotel; Las Vegas

A ghost hunt in March 2023 of the Benny Binion suite (room 400) at the Apache Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Using our methods of capturing and deciphering EVPs we downloaded and interpreted several paragraphs of EVPs. To bypass the hunt and go directly to the EVP murmurs progress to time: 30:23:05 (You will have to scroll to it, this video is not "chaptered") While other investigators are using Mel Meters, REM pods, and other EMF capture devices along with ghost / "Franks" boxes to capture a word or two of sentence structure we download the entire sentence. Our techniques are unique to us, took months to learn the technique of deciphering, and cannot be rivaled.

Hotel St. Charles, Carson City, NV

Long considered a paranormal hotspot by some investigators, we found ourselves up that way and decided to let 24 surveillance determine if any of the claims were, in fact, true.
