With a Canvas container, you can’t change the size of the entire container once it’s been created, and so the number of pixels in your image automatically determines the size. If you make a mistake and delete a shape in a layer, the entire container is deleted. This didn’t make working with designers who wanted to manipulate the pixels in the background of an image easy, and it didn’t make it easy to add new layers when you wanted to experiment with more than one background.
